Internal company data shows that the number of searches for unique listings grew 94 percent year-to-date through April 30 this year compared to the same period in 2019, according to Airbnb. That feature is now live globally and will make planning trips around unique places to stay “a whole lot easier,” the company said in a press release. Last month, Airbnb announced several updates to its platform, including Flexible Destinations, a feature for those who have a set timeframe and budget, but haven’t yet decided on exactly where they want to go. The company’s short-term rental site lists more than 170,000 such properties - a 30 percent increase from May 2019, according to Airbnb. Airbnb hosts offering “unique stays” - the company’s term for out-of-the-ordinary listings such as treehouses, tiny homes and private islands - have earned more than $300 million since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the company announced Wednesday.
